ALVERTA BELL AHRENS

Mrs. Alverta Bell Ahrens was born June 9, 1877 at Newburg, the daughter of the late Steward Bell and Mary Harris Bell. She died Saturday, Oct. 27, 1956, at the Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines.

On Oct. 27, 1897, she was married to Frank G. Ahrens at Ferguson. The couple celebrated its golden wedding anniversary in 1947. Mr. Ahrens preceded her in death in 1950. Mrs. Ahrens died on the anniversary date.

Although Mrs. Ahrens had been living with her daughter recently, she spent most of her life in Grinnell. Her husband was a Rock Island railroad employee. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Marie and Theresa.

Survivors include nine children, Mrs. Ada Powers of Whittier, Calif.; Emmett Ahrens of Grinnell; Lynn Ahrens, Motley, Minn.; Mrs. Hulda Morrisey, Inglewood, Calif.; Frank Ahrens, Grinnell; Henry Ahrens, Motley, Minn.; Steward Ahrens of Delhi, Calif.; Mrs. Christina Timmons, Estherville, and Mrs. Nancy Alexander of Des Moines. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Stella Hinton of Webster City and Mrs. Rose Walker of Grinnell, 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 29, at the Smith funeral home. The Rev. C.E. Kingsley officiated. Burial was in Hazelwood cemetery. Pallbearers were Carl Ahrens, Leo Ahrens, John Ahrens, Tony Dunton, Glen Garwood, and Laird Wray. Music was provided by Mrs. Rhee Auman.
