OBITUARY

FRED C. WATSON

Fred C. Watson, son of Simon and Susan Beeler Watson, was born on June 28, 1872, in Sugar Creek Township near Searsboro and died on April 1, 1947 at the Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines at the age of 74 years, 9 months and 4 days.

He had been in failing health for several months and was taken to the hospital a few days ago that all possible care and comfort could be given him, but he could not regain his strength.

On Dec. 13, 1896, he was united in marriage to Martha Pratt, daughter of Alvah and Mary Fisher Pratt of Montezuma. To them were born seven sons and three daughters. One twin son died in infancy. Roy, Ida, Leo, Alvah and Joe of Searsboro, Lewis of Grinnell, Robey of Montezuma, Mrs. Lloyd L. Johnson, (Alice) of Des Moines and Viola of Gibson survive to sustain his loss. In addition to these, his wife, children and their families, two sisters, Mrs. Annie Tish of Kellogg and Mrs. Belle Rivers of Grinnell and other relatives and friends deeply mourn his passing.

His parents and four brothers preceded him in death, his father in 1908, mother in 1912, Winslow in 1908, Walter in 1910, George in 1944 in Council Bluffs and Elmer in 1945.

The funeral services were held at the West Liberty church, east of Searsboro, Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in charge of the Rev. G.L. Stanley of Indianola. Music was furnished by Mrs. Kelley Davis of Montezuma and Mrs. Caroline Orcutt of Searsboro. Mrs. J.P. Baker and Mrs. C.O. Baker cared for the beautiful floral tributes. The esteem in which Mr. Watson was held was manifested by the mass of flowers in the midst of which rested the body of a community's friend. The sons were pall bearers. Burial was made in the West Liberty cemetery.

Attending from a distance were Mrs. Annie Tish, Mrs. Clyde Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Owen Barr of Kellogg, Mrs. Belle Rivers, Mr. and Mrs. Worth Belden, R.H. Stanley and Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Stanley of Grinnell, Mr. and Mrs. R.H. Hannon of Newton, Mrs. Mayme Wheeler and George Pratt of Montezuma and Mr. and Mrs. Everett Schooley of Barnes City.

CARD OF THANKS

We wish to thank our neighbors and friends for their many acts of kindness rendered during our great sorrow, for the beautiful flowers and the sympathy expressed in so many ways.--Mrs. Fred C. Watson and family.
