MR. COULTHARD SERVICES SET

Howard W. Coulthard, 62, of 916 Chatterton St., Grinnell, died Monday evening at Veterans Hospital in Iowa City following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Willard Reynolds officiating. Organist will be Mrs. Willard Heffner, and pallbearers will be Arnold Baetsle, Robert Maring, Robert Rutherford, Lyle Wiley, Carl Wittrup, and Ray Ziegenmeyer. Graveside rites will be conducted by the Grinnell veterans ceremonial unit, with burial at Chester Cemetery north of Grinnell.

Memorials in Mr. Coulthard's name may be left at the Smith Funeral Home.

The son of Elmer and Ellabelle Heath Coulthard, he was born May 22, 1913 near Lenox. He attended rural schools near his home and graduated from Lenox High School. He also attended a technical school of welding at Marion.

He entered the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served on the USS Louisville in the Pacific theater during World War II. Following the war, Mr. Coulthard returned to Grinnell and was associated with Plum Welding. He later started his own welding business in Grinnell. He was also employed by the Iowa Liquor Store and Miracle Recreation Equipment Co.

On Feb. 12, 1955, he was married to Genevieve Vogt Felper at Corning. Mr. Coulthard was a member of Focht-Tennant Post No. 53, American Legion; B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 1266; and the Odd Fellows Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Genevieve; his step-children, Gordon D. Felper of Grinnell, Mrs. James B. (Maxine) Smith of Keokuk, and Mrs. Edward W. (Marjorie) Hajek of Plymouth, Mich.; eight step-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Liddell of Griswold. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son.
