HERBRANDT RITES CONDUCTED

Julius (Joe) Herbrandt, 81, died Sunday, May 31, at Friendship Manor.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Steffy Funeral Home in Montezuma, with the Rev. Robert Ellis officiating. Burial was at the Jackson Township Cemetery, Montezuma.

The son of August and Louise Facile Herbrandt, he was born Nov. 13, 1899, in Moline, Ill. He moved with his family to Ladora where he attended rural schools.

On Dec. 20, 1922, he was married to Ethel Baird. For most of their married life, the couple farmed in the Montezuma and Brooklyn areas. Mrs. Herbrandt died in June 1980.

Mr. Herbrandt is survived by two sons, Ray of Grinnell and James of Newton; a daughter, Bessie Goeke of Toledo; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Klobes of Bennett; and two brothers, Maurice Herbrandt of Moline, Ill., and Frank Herbrandt of Malcom.
