MRS. LYMAN BAILEY

Miss Evaline Meredith was born on August 22, 1859, in Lynn Grove, Jasper county, Iowa, and died September 30, 1909, at her home near Bethel church. She grew to womanhood in this vicinity. She was married to Lyman Bailey July 4, 1876, at Newton, Iowa. She with her husband has lived in Jasper county till her death. To this union was born eight children, three boys and five girls--Manzel, Alna and Oral, Ada, Ethel, Mollie, Ida and Maud, all of whom, with the father, survive her, with Sister Bailey's father, mother and grandmother, one sister and five brothers and a host of friends to mourn her untimely death.

Sister Bailey was a faithful wife and mother. She was always ready to render any service that was in her power to do, either in sickness or in health, and always counciled her companion and family. She was loving and sympathetic to all she met. None knew her but to respect her. She gave her heart to God in the year 1880 and always manifested an interest in the work of the church as opportunity afforded, and with but few exceptions was a faithful servant to her duty as she saw it. She loved the means of grace, and enjoyed the preaching of a full gospel and often testified to the cleansing blood that washes whiter than snow. Sister Bailey called all her family to her bedside and told them to read her bible and pray and live so as to meet her in a better world.

Funeral services were held at Bethel church of which she was a member, after which she was laid to rest in Woodland cemetery, Lynnville, Iowa, to wait the resurrection morn.

Texts of scripture used were 2 Tim. 4, 6-8 and Rev. 7, 13-17 and 103 Ps. Services were conducted by Rev. W.D. Merryman, assisted by Pastor Fautz and Rev. Milliet.
