FUNERAL SREVICES HELD TODAY FOR MANZEL BAILEY, 85

A lifetime Grinnell area resident, H. Manzel Bailey, 85, died Thursday evening at a local hospital where he had been a patient for the past 10 days.

Funeral services were held this afternoon (Monday) from the James-Schalinske Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Headland and the Rev. Clarence Woollard officiating. Vocal music was by Gordon Van Donselaar, accompanied by Mrs. Gordon Van Donselaar at the organ. In charge of flowers were Mrs. Robert T. Ashby and Mrs. Mary Kaisand.

Pallbearers were Basil Arment, Floyd Beason, Harvey Howell, Lawrence Decatur, M.C. Brooks and Otto Durr. Honorary pallbearers were Rink Zylsta, Buren Bailey, John Jelsma and Lehrl Fritz.

Interment was in Woodland cemetery in Lynnville.

The son of Lyman and Evaline Bailey, he was born Apr. 18th, 1877, in the Black Oak neighborhood southwest of Grinnell. He attended the rural schools of the Bethel community and was a member of the Bethel church.

On May 23rd, 1906, he was united in marriage with Myrtle Black. They farmed in the Bethel community for 37 years and lived on an acreage just west of Grinnell for 16 years. In November, 1959, they moved to their home in Grinnell.

Mr. Bailey is survived by his wife, Myrtle; a daughter, Carol Sammon of Grinnell; a son, Bernard of Long Beach, Calif.; three grandchildren; one great granddaughter; two brothers, Oral and Alna, both of Grinnell; two sisters, Mrs. Ethyl Case of Grinnell and Mrs. Ida Hill of Kellogg.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two daughters, Mildred Bailey and Inez Huff; and three sisters.
