LAST RITES SAID FOR ALNA BAILEY

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. today (Monday) at the Smith Funeral Home for Mr. Alna Z. Bailey, 83, of Rte. 1, Grinnell, who died Friday morning at Grinnell General Hospital West. He had been in failing health the past two years and was recently hospitalized.

The Rev. Ercil Craven pastor of the Oak Grove Friends Church, officiated at the services. Music was provided by Mrs. Gordon Van Donselaar, organist, and Mr. Gordon Van Donselaar, vocalist.

Pallbearers were Lyman Case, Bernard Criswell, Don Criswell, Kenneth Criswell, Roy Criswell and Clifford Poots.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

The son of Lyman and Evaline Meredith Bailey, Mr. Bailey was born in Jasper County, Iowa, on March 19, 1886. He attended school near his home and later farmed in the Bethel community.

On March 17, 1921, he married Elizabeth Criswell at Newton. To this union was born one son. Later the family moved to the Oak Grove community where they farmed the last 40 years.

Mr. Bailey owned and operated a threshing machine and had a threshing run on neighboring farms in addition to his farm work. He was a member of the Oak Grove Friends Church.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth, his son, Ralph of Frankfort, Ind.; 3 grandchildren--Bruce E. Bailey of Daleville, Ind., Mrs. James (Judy Ann) Pitman of Frankfort, Ind.; and Pvt. Hal T. Bailey of the U.S. Army at Ft. Sill, Okla.; three great-grandchildren; two sisters--Mrs. Harry (Ethel) Case of Grinnell and Mrs. Clarence (Ida) Hill of Kellogg; one brother, Oral Bailey of Grinnell; and an uncle, Morley Meredith of Long Beach, Calif.

Mr. Bailey was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters, Mrs. Ada Van Zanty, Manzel Bailey, Mrs. Molly Poots and Mrs. Maude Jordan.
