ESTELLA VANDERVEER

Estella E. Vanderveer, 83, of Grinnell died Monday, March 24, at Friendship Manor.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Stephen Jasch officiating. Organist was Margaret Amo, and pallbearers were Joe Diehm, Carl Dillon, Jerry Ford and James A., James L., and John C. Vanderveer. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

She was the daughter of Andrew and Clara Weber Diehm and was born Oct. 6, 1913, in Grinnell. She was raised here and attended rural schools.

On Nov. 12, 1938, she was married to Hale F. Vanderveer in Grinnell. During World War II she lived and worked in New York City and, later, San Francisco. She returned to Grinnell and was employed by Grinnell College in the housekeeping department until her retirement in 1978. She had been a resident of Friendship Manor since December 1993.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

Surviving are a son, James of Grinnell; one sister, Clara Foster of Grinnell; and two grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Gussie Septer; and six brothers, Bertie, Fred, Garland, Arthur, Joe and Leonard Diehm.

Memorial contributions may be made to her church.
