BERNICE KANN RITES MONDAY

Bernice O. Kann, 91, of Onawa, formerly of Grinnell, died Thursday, June 6, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gerald F. Brown, pastor of the Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating. Organist was Ann Buchmeier. Pallbearers were Charles Deppe, Gerald Deppe, Laird Deppe, Ronald Deppe, Aamon Gruhn, Charles Lester and Wayne Skelton.

Burial was in Rock Creek Cemetery west of Grinnell.

The daughter of Samuel and Florence Tracy Brush, she was born Sept. 18, 1893, on a farm west of Brooklyn. She was raised in the Brooklyn area and was a 1913 graduate of Brooklyn High School.

On July 23, 1913, she was married to Theodore F. Kann at her parents home. The couple farmed near Malcom for 30 years and moved to Grinnell in 1945. While living in Grinnell she was employed in the housekeeping department at Grinnell College and also did housekeeping in private homes.

Mrs. Kann is survived by one daughter, Virginia Deppe of rural Grinnell; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marian Rosson of LaCrosse, Wis. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two brothers, Max and Charles Brush.
