ELSIE SHOOK SERVICES HELD

Funeral services for Mrs. Elsie G. Shook, 76, of 516 Third Ave., Grinnell, were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sam Reaves, pastor of the Grinnell Assembly of God Church, officiating.

Organist was Mrs. Willard Heffner, and pallbearers included Charles Gilliland, Gary A. Shook, Gene. E. Shook, George M. Shook, Kenneth L. Shook and Verl E. Shook.

Burial was at Hazelwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Shook died Wednesday evening at Grinnell General Hospital.

The daughter of George W. and Katie Smith Provin, she was born Jan. 30, 1899, in Pleasant Township, Poweshiek County. She attended rural school near her home. On Nov. 1, 1917, she was married to Elijah Elmer Shook. The couple had three children, George, Kenneth and Willard.

Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Shook farmed in Poweshiek County, moving to Grinnell in 1945. Mrs. Shook had worked at Grinnell College and at the Grinnell shoe factory. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Malcom and the V.F.W. Auxiliary.

Survivors include her three children, George E. Shook Sr. of New Sharon, Kenneth K. Shook of Grinnell and Willard E. Shook of Marshalltown; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-granddaugher; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Brush and Hazel Provin; and six brothers, Smith, Carl, Carmi, Keith, George and Charles Provin.
