HELEN BEATRICE NOEL

Helen Beatrice Noel, 83, of Grinnell died of cancer Monday, Aug. 7, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler, and soloist was Barbara Chitwood. Pallbearers were Bill, Kirk and Scott Banzhaf, Ken Clark, John Fleming and Brad and David Noel. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

The daughter of Patrick John and Leila Hannah Cook Fleming, she was born Feb. 9, 1912, in Grinnell. She was a 1931 graduate of Grinnell High School.

She was married to William H. Noel Aug. 15, 1932, in Kennard, Neb., and they made their home in Grinnell. During World War II they lived in El Paso, Texas, where Mr. Noel was stationed with the U.S. Army at Ft. Bliss. They returned to Grinnell in 1946.

Mrs. Noel was employed as a cook at several local restaurants. The couple later owned and operated the P&M cafe in Grinnell. She was a member of the Grinnell Christian Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving are her children, Lynn Banzhaf of Marshalltown and Bill Jr. of Mason City; two sisters, Elaine Dean and Ardene McKeag, both of Marshalltown; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Kathleen Saville and Elna Temple; and one brother, John Fleming.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to Hospice Grinnell.
