SERVICES FOR DAVID RIVERS HELD SATURDAY

Funeral services for David Rivers were conducted by the Rev. Howard Hayes at the Steffy Funeral Home Saturday morning, February 15.

Casket bearers were Ed Lester, Phil Evans, Harry Bunnell, Earl Beach, Lyle McFerren and Harley Rose. Interment was at Jackson Township Cemetery.

Mr. Rivers, 86, passed away Tuesday, February 11, at Friendship Manor, Grinnell, where he had been cared for the past two years.

The son of Martha and William Rivers, he was born near Killduff, Iowa, on May 4, 1882. He attended rural school and assisted with the farm work during his youth.

On March 6, 1910, he was united in marriage with Agnes Wood. To this union three children were born. They made their home on a farm for several years and later with his brother, Richard, owned and operated a hardware store in Montezuma. He was also employed by the Poweshiek County highway department for about six years.

In 1925 they returned to their farm southeast of Montezuma.

They retired in 1959 and moved to Arizona where they celebrated their Golden Anniversary. After Mrs. Rivers health failed, they lived with their son in Kansas City.

He was preceded in death by Mrs. Rivers in 1965.

He is survived by a daughter, Glema Jones of Davenport; two sons, Farrell of Buckeye, Ariz., and Edward of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
