WILLIS EVANS RITES THURSDAY AFTERNOON; BURIAL IN HAZELWOOD

Funeral services for Willis Earl Evans, well known Grinnell farmer, who passed away Monday morning at a local hospital, were held this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Smith Funeral Home, in charge of Rev. C.E. Kingsley, pastor of the First Baptist church in Grinnell.

Organ selections were by Edward Bohstedt.

Blanche Howell and Hazel Lincoln acted as flower bearers.

Casket bearers at the service were Leonard Evans, Donovan Evans, Harold Evans, Burson Farmer, Darwin Renbarger and Willard Wells.

Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery.

WILLIS EARL EVANS

Willis Earl Evans, son of William Arthur and Pearl Evans, was born near Grinnell, Iowa, Jan. 19, 1897, attended the common schools in this area, where he spent his entire life. He was the oldest of seven children.

He was married to Anna May Quivey, June 28, 1930, and together they have lived and farmed at the home in the Westfield neighborhood. They have two children, Carl E. and Mary E. both of the home. He, with his family was a member of First Baptist church, serving on the official board during much of the planning and construction of the new building.

He passed away, following an extended illness, June 15, 1953, at 56 years of age. He is preceded in death by his father and his first companion, Mary Brownell.

Those surviving include, his companion Anna May Evans, son Carl E., and Mary E., all of the home; his aged mother, Mrs. Pearl Evans, Grinnell, four sisters, Florence Evans Tew, Grinnell, Mary Evans Gray, Des Moines, Irene Evans Walker, Huntington Park, Calif., and Louise Evans Agnew, Montezuma; two brothers, Lyman of Fairfield and Russell of Myrtlepoint, Oregon; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 18, at Smith funeral home, conducted by the Rev. C.E. Kingsley.
