OBITUARY

WILLIAM APPLEGATE

William Applegate, eldest son of Thomas and Sarah Applegate was born in Sugar Creek Township, Poweshiek County, Iowa, May 11, 1857, and died while helping saw wood on Chas. Elliott farm near Grundy Center in Grundy County, Iowa, April 9, 1925 of heart failure, being at the time of his death 67 years, 10 months and 28 days of age. At the age of about 20 years he was united in marriage to Louisa Hoyt who preceded him in death, July 16th, 1897.

To this union were born five children, Alvina, Etta, Grace Almeda, Harvey, and Effie. Three of these, Alvina, Grace Almeda, and Harvey have gone on before.

He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Etta Reavis and Mrs. Effie Sheehy both of Tama, Iowa, one brother Geo. T. Applegate of Montezuma, Iowa, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate father and friend. In the year 1892 he united with the Christian church at West Liberty in Sugar Creek township, Poweshiek County at which place funeral services were held April 11th, 1925 at 1 o'clock by Rev. J.M. Hoffman of Des Moines, pastor of the Christian church at Montezuma, Iowa and his body was laid to rest by the side of that of his wife there to await the final call of the Master at which time we all shall appear to give an account of the deeds done in the body and receive our eternal reward.
