ALBERT W. APPLEGATE

November 15, Mr. A.W. Applegate, of Norton, Kansas, was murdered. He was a former resident of this county, and was a nephew of our esteemed citizens, W.J. and Thomas Applegate. It seems that at about seven o'clock the morning of November 15, he took his team and drove to the field to husk corn. About 20 minutes after four shots were heard. His team ran away, and soon Mr. Applegate's lifeless body was found in the field, shot, and lying on the face. Indicatons were that a short struggle had taken place. The man who is supposed to be the murderer stayed at a neighbor's the preceding night, and made inquiries about Albert's habits. The cause seems to be unknown as well as the murderer, but it is supposed to have originated in some trouble the murdered man may have had in Colorado several years before. One hundred and seven wagons filled with friends followed the body to the grave.
