GUSTAV RASMUSSEN
Gustav (Gus) Rasmussen, Hawthorne, Calif., formerly of Grinnell, died April 23 at his home of congestive heart failure.
Funeral services will be held Satuday, May 2, in Oceanside, Calif., where arrangements are being handled by Eternal Hills Mortuary.
He was born Dec. 6, 1923, in Grinnell, the son of I.S. (Sam) and Rachel Rasmussen. He grew up on the family farm, attended country school and graduated in 1940 from Grinnell High School. He served in the United States Army in the Pacific area from 1944 to 1946. His last tour of duty was during the occupation of Okinawa. After leaving the army, he moved to St. Louis, Mo., to work for McDonnell Aircraft. In 1951, he returned to assist his father on the farm. In 1958 he moved to California and completed a course in automobile mechanics at National Tech Schools in Los Angeles, and he worked at this occupation until his retirement in 1985.
He is survived by four brothers Terye, Mount Hope, Kan.; Robert, Lehigh, Iowa; Mark, Nevada, Iowa, and John of Claremont, Calif., and two sisters Dena Durr, Malcom and Marie Smith, Oceanside, Calif.; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Sevrin and George, and one sister, Anna Marie.
