SEVRIN I. RASMUSSEN

Sevrin I. Rasmussen, 74, of Chariton, formerly of Grinnell, died Saturday, Sept. 19, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Bissett, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Chariton, officiating. Organist will be Margaret Wheeler, and pallbearers will be Charles, James and Thomas Durr and Chris, Greg, LeRoy and Lloyd Rasmussen.

Graveside rites will be conducted by members of the Grinnell Veterans Ceremonial Unit, with burial in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, and the family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The son of Sevrin and Rachel Lovig Rasmussen, he was born June 20, 1918, in Grinnell. He attended rural school and graduated from Grinnell High School in 1937.

During World War II he served in China with the U.S. Army. Following the war he returned to Iowa and worked as a farmhand and welder. He had lived in Chariton for the past 13 years.

Surviving are two sisters, Dena Durr of Grinnell and Marie Smith of Oceanside, Calif., and five brothers, Ted of Mount Hope, Kan., Guss of Hawthorne, Calif., Robert of Story City, Mark of Nevada and John Rasmussen of Claremont, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, George; and one sister, Ann Rasmussen.
