LAST RITES SAID FOR CLARE MANATT

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today (Monday) at the Smith Funeral Home for Clare Manatt, 85, of 921 High St., who died Friday morning at Grinnell General Hospital East.

The Rev. Hugh Shiveley, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiated. Organist was Mrs. Willard Heffner. Pall-bearers were David Arnold, Mark Arnold, Max Arnold, James Manatt, Norman Roseland, Gerald Sampson.

Masonic rites were conducted by F.W. Tomasek and members of Hermon Lodge No. 273 A.F. & A.M. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

The son of George and Emily Norris Manatt, Mr. Manatt was born on Dec. 12, 1883 at Brooklyn. On June 11, 1913 he married Blanche Stowe at Mason City, Iowa. He was a railroad freight agent for many years at Mason City, Monmouth, Ill., Ft. Dodge, Des Moines, and Minneapolis, Minn.

Mr. Manatt was a member of Hermon Masonic Lodge No. 273 in Grinnell and was honored several years ago as a 50-year member of the lodge. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club in Monmouth, Ill. Following the death of his wife, Blanche, on March 21, 1967 in Minneapolis, Mr. Manatt moved to Grinnell to make his home.

Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews as well as three sisters-in-law--Miss Ruth Stowe, Miss Bessie Stowe, and Mrs. Lola Connelly all of Grinnell.

Mr. Manatt was preceded in death by his wife and three brothers and three sisters, Elmer, Jeff, Art Manatt and Mrs. Will (Lucy) Stowe, Mrs. Arthur (Eva) Baggs and Mrs. Harry (Elma) Porter.
