MRS. FRANK L. CASS

Elizabeth Jane Cass was born Elizabeth Jane Mitchell, the daughter of Andrew and Mary Fleener Mitchell, in Poweshiek county on Oct. 23, 1864. She lived on the same farm, about 14 miles south of Grinnell until her marriage to Frank L. Cass, who had come to Iowa from Richmond, New Hampshire, some three years before.

Mr. and Mrs. Cass began their married life on their farm 4 1/2 miles northeast of Grinnell and lived there until they established a new home in Rock Creek township. In the fall of 1922 the family moved to their home at 1403 West street in Grinnell, where she lived until her death on Oct. 24, 1948. Mr. Cass passed away in April of 1934.

Mr. and Mrs. Cass were the parents of four children. One son, James Cass, died in 1917, leaving a daughter, Norma. The surviving children are Mrs. Thomas H. Johnson of 216 E. Hickory St., Kirksville, Mo., and Sadie Cass and Myrtle Cass at home. She is also survived by one brother, Andrew Mitchell of Searsboro.

Funeral services were held at the James Funeral Home on Oct. 26, in charge of Rev. Leland W. Mann, pastor of the Congregational church, of which she had been a member for 28 years. Two songs, "Rock of Ages" and "Dear God and Father of Mankind," were sung by Miss Lee Ann Albright, who was accompanied by Mrs. Mann. Pallbearers were five nephews, Frank Mitchell, Raymond Mitchell, Raymond Rivers, Lewis Buchenau and Walter Palmer and a grandnephew, Stewart Buchenau. Interment was made in Hazelwood cemetery.

Mrs. Cass, a devoted wife and mother, was interested in her church and every good movement in the community and took an active part as long as health pervailed. She loved people and in her younger days spent much time helping the sick and those in need.
