CHARLES BELL, 86, DIES SUDDENLY; SERVICES TODAY
Charles G. Bell, 86, former resident of the Hickory Grove community, died early Tuesday morning at a local rest home. Though his death came suddenly, he had not been in good health the last few years.
Funeral services were held this afternoon (Thursday) from the Hickory Grove church with the Rev. Roland Wendell of Newburg officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Don Renaud.
Pallbearers were Henry Hauersperger, Luverne Smith, Emery Kaisand, Wallace Cloyd, John McIlrath and Richard Paul. Burial was in the church cemetery with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
He was the son of Richard and Elizabeth Preston Bell and was born June 12th, 1874, in Hickory Grove township, Jasper county. He attended the rural schools near his home.
On Nov. 14th, 1918, he was united in marriage with Elsie Pimlott at Newton. His wife preceded him in death shortly after their marriage.
Mr. Bell had farmed nearly all of his life in the Hickory Grove area.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. George (Anna Bell) Wertz of the Hickory Grove neighborhood and Mrs. Rosetta Bell Tilton of Gilman, and several nephews and nieces.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, and one brother, John.
