Erastus Perry Bonsall

Erastus Perry Bonsall was born May 4, 1853, in Mahaska County, Iowa, and died at his home in this city August 3, 1922, aged 69yrs 2mo 29 days.

On February 4, 1880, he was united in marriage to Ora Ellen Cox. To this union were born 3 sons, Frederick W. of Stettler, Alberta, Canada; Courtney N., of Didsbury, Alberta, Canada; and Milo E. of this city. There are also 2 grand daughters, Winifred & Doris. Beside the wife, sons & granddaughters there are left to mourn his loss 5 sisters & 2 brothers.

His mother died in his early infancy. Later his father remarried and to this union were born 7 sisters & 3 brothers, Mrs. Ida Steen & Mrs. Mary Evans, of Oskaloosa; Mrs. Lizzie Annan, of Coin, Iowa; Mrs. Tillie Linstead, of Lynnville, Iowa; Mrs. Edna Bean, of Sedalia, Kansas; John Q. Bonsall, of Clarinda, Iowa; and J. R. Bonsall, of Fort Scott, Kansas; the other having died in infancy.

In the winter of 1889 he was converted and became a member of the Church of God at Newburg, Jasper County, Iowa. For 33 years he has had an abiding faith in the keeping power of the atoning blood of Jesus Christ and found comfort and peace in communion with the Holy Spirit.

Funeral services were conducted at the home Saturday afternoon by Rev. W. P. Robertson, of Taintor, Iowa, a boyhood schoolmate and lifelong friend. The singing was by Mr. & Mrs. M. E. Phillips, of Conrad, Iowa, also old friends of the family.

Bearers were Harrison Fleener, John Jantzen, Frank Marvin, W. J. Nelson, Chal Chancey & Fred Gruhn.

Relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. & Mrs. John Steen, Mr. & Mrs. A. B. Evans, Mr. Ranford Evans, all of Oskaloosa, Mahaska County, Iowa; Mr. & Mrs. Louis Annan, of Coin, Iowa; Mr. & Mrs. C. Dickson, of Newburg, Jasper County, Iowa; Mrs. Carroll McBroom of Marshalltown, Iowa, Mrs. H. M. Cox, Misses Rena & Trula Cox of Newton, Iowa and David Cox of Newburg, Jasper County, Iowa.
