Josephine Martin Cox
Josephine Martin Cox was born in Putnam County, IN, July 28, 1831, and died May 29, 1920, aged 88yrs 10mo 1day.She came with her parents to Iowa in 1847 and settled at Winterset, there she grew to womanhood, and married Thomas Telfer in 1856.
They went to Canada where they remained a number of years. Thomas Telfer died in 1860. She married Thomas Stapleton and he died in 1865.In 1866 she married James H. Cox. He died December 10, 1906.
Seven children were born to her, Mary E. Telfer, Adelia F. Stapleton & Cornelius W. Cox preceded her. Four are living: Ellen J. Cox of Glidden, Iowa; Alice A. Cox at home, Mrs. Millie Curtis, Grinnell, & Albert Stapleton of Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska.
Mrs. Cox united with the United Presbyterian Church in Canada in early life. She was a charter member of the Grinnell United Presbyterian Church. During all these years she has been faithful to her church.
For months she has been afflicted, but she has borne her sufferings patiently and was eager to depart and to be with Christ. The end came peacefully Saturday evening.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. W. Woodburn yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the United Presbyterian Church. Interment was in Hazelwood Cemetery.
