DEATH CLOSES USEFUL LIFE OF JEFF MANATT
George Jefferson Manatt was born February 4, 1866 in Brooklyn, Iowa. In 1882 he moved to Grinnell, Iowa, where he spent practically his entire life with the exception of a few years spent in Kansas, California and Colorado. In 1892 he was married to Stella North.
He is survived by his wife Stella Manatt and seven children; Joel N., George J. Jr., Fred S., Randall J. Manatt, Mrs. L.E. Sage, all of Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs. L.H. Tew, Marie Manatt of Chicago, Illinois and fourteen grandchildren. One daugher, Mrs. Alma Porter preceded him in death 14 years ago.
He is also survived by two brothers; A.L. Manatt of Grinnell, Iowa; and Clare Manatt of Des Moines, Iowa. Two sisters,Mrs. W.W. Stowe and Mrs. A.E. Baggs and one brother, Elmer Manatt preceded him in death a number of years ago.
He passed away May 28, 1936 at the home of his son, Randall Manatt, 4022 5th street, in Des Moines, where he has been making his home for the past six months.
