THE FUNERAL OF ARTHUR E. BAGGS HELD HERE WED.
Funeral services for Arthur E. Baggs who passed away Monday at Davenport were held Wednesday afternoon at three o'clock from Snyder Brothers Chapel conducted by Rev. W.H. Upton of Davenport. A service was also held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at the Hill and Fredericks mortuary at Davenport. Interment was made in Hazelwood cemetery. Pall bearers were Russell Baggs, John Bryan, Harry Bitcon, Otto Broders, William Steenhoek and Burt Speth. Mr. Baggs formerly lived in Grinnell leaving here in the fall of 1897. The Davenport Daily Times of October 12, 1936 gives the followifng report of Mr. Baggs' death.
Arthur Eugene Baggs, 71, of Des Moines, and a former resident of Rock Island, died at 11:30 a.m. today in St. Luke's hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. Baggs came to Davenport Oct. 3 to visit his son, Louis E. Baggs, 1027 East High street. He became ill shortly after his arrival here and was taken to St. Luke's hospital a few hours later.
Mr. Baggs was born Oct. 28, 1865, in Kankakee, Ill., received his education in the schools of Newton, Ia., and was married to Miss Evah Manatt March 23, 1887 at Grinnell, Ia. She preceded him in death in 1923, and he was married to Mrs. Minn Stenger Nov. 12, 1928, in Chicago. For many years he was employed by the Rock Island railroad, retiring last February.
He lived in Des Moines from 1912 to 1925 when he moved to Rock Island. He returned to Des Moines in May of this year.
He was a member of the Des Moines chapter of the B.P.O.E. and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen.
Surviving are the widow; one son, Louis of Davenport and one sister, Mrs. Bertha Dutton of Canada.
