KENNETH V. HOCKENBURY

Kenneth V. Hockenbury, 79, longtime Sioux City attorney, 3524 Lafayette St., died Thursday at his residence after a long illness.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Donald H. Hockenbury, a son, Gary H. Hoklin of Sioux City Gospel Mission, and the Rev. E. Gordon Riffle, pastor of First Evangelical Free Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is from 10 a.m. today until service time.

Mr. Hockenbury was born June 21, 1906 in Des Moines, where he grew up. He graduated from Cumberland University in Tennessee in 1931, and came to Sioux City in 1932. He was a captain with the American Red Cross serving the armed forces during World War II. He married Janet A. Orthman on June 26, 1952, in St. Paul, Minn.

Mr. Hockenbury, who practiced law in Sioux City for more than 53 years, was honored by the bar association with a 50 year award. He was a member of the American Bar Association and Iowa State Bar Association.

Mr. Hockenbury was active, worked for and gave much of his time to the Sioux City Gospel Mission.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Meredith V. of Kansas City, Mo.; Donald H. of Tulsa, Okla.; and Robert D. of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Mrs. Roger (Yvonne F.) Hockenbury-Cox of Lincoln, Neb.; and six grandchildren.

NOTE: Kenneth V. Hockenbury's first wife was Opal Billick. They were married Nov. 26, 1936 in Brooklyn, Iowa. She died Dec. 28, 1952 in Sioux City, Iowa and buried in Brooklyn, Iowa.
