SERVICES HELD IN MALCOM FOR NELSON MCDONALD
Funeral services were held on Feb. 24 at the Malcom Methodist church for Nelson Wellington McDonald, 86, who died Feb. 20.
Officiating at the services was the Rev. James Robinson, pastor. Vocal music was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Keith Stahl, accompanied by Joan Schneekloth. Flower bearers were Mr. and Mrs. Edward Barnes and Mr. and Mrs. Cleon Stufflebeem.
Pallbearers were Donald Schultz, Sonny Schneekloth, Clair Hutchinson, Herschel Griffith, Raymond Sheets and Tom Bowers. Interment was in Ivy Hill cemetery at Malcom.
The eldest son of Charles and Almira Fuller McDonald, he was born near Malcom on June 16, 1876. He had made Poweshiek county his home except for about 10 years of his boyhood spent in Hardin county.
On June 16, 1910, he was united in marriage with Anna Almira Griffin and to this union were born 10 children, four of whom survive: Elmer of Grinnell, Mrs. Gerald (Sadia) Taylor of Malcom, John of Englewood, Colo., and Mrs. Frank (Viola) Custer of Malcom.
Mr. McDonald made farm work his occupation until he retired to Malcom in May, 1937. He was a member of the Malcom Methodist church. The last four months of his life were spent as a resident of Lone Elm nursing home in Grinnell.
Besides his four children, he is survived by a stepson, Glenn F. Griffin of Pittsburgh, Pa.; 19 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; three brothers, Noble of Grinnell, Arthur of Chelsea, and Oscar of What Cheer; three sisters, Mrs. Flora LaGrange of Davenport, Mrs. Anna LaGrange of Hammond, Ind., and Mrs. Rosa Hicks of Montezuma; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna, in 1932, six children, his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
