DOROTHY M. CHASE

Dorothy Mae Chase, 81, of Mount Vernon, Texas, formerly of Grinnell died Thursday, April 8, 2004, at East Texas Medical Center in Mount Vernon.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, April 18, at 2 p.m. at Hazelwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Dorothy Chase Memorial Fund.

She was born in Grinnell on July 18, 1922, the daughter of Matthew and Jennie Wilkinson Kline. She was raised on the family farm and educated in Grinnell schools. She was married on July 18, 1940 to Leonard Chase in the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple farmed near Grinnell and she was employed at Turner Drug, Grinnell Beverage and the Grinnell Shoe Factory. She moved to Des Moines where she was employed as a credit manager at Bolton and Hay, retiring in 1987, after which she moved to Fort Wayne, Ind., and then to Texas to be closer to her family. She enjoyed bowling, crocheting and playing bridge.

She is survived by one son Wayne of Mount Vernon, Texas; two grandsons and one great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Ina Kline.
