LEONARD CHASE RITES THURSDAY

Leonard W. Chase, 72, of No. 6 Fifteenth Ave. Court, Grinnell, died of a heart attack at his home Monday, April 11.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church, and Pastor Arthur Schlief of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, officiating. Fraternal rites were conducted by members of B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 1266.

Organist was Margaret Wheeler, and pallbearers were Carl Binegar, Gene Campbell, Lyman Case, Wayne Gropper, Robert Maring, Earl Reedy, Jim Urfer and Lyle Wiley. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Memorials in Mr. Chase's name may be made to the Grinnell Elks building fund.

The son of Fred and Jennie Parmley Chase, he was born Feb. 5, 1916, near Grinnell. He attended rural school and graduated from Grinnell High School in 1935. He farmed in the Grinnell area until his retirement in 1973, then worked for the Grinnell Implement Store for six years.

He was a member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 1266 and had served as exalted ruler from 1954 to 1956. He also served as state Elks vice president and as district deputy grand exalted ruler.

He was married to Leona Wilkie Feb. 22, 1977, at Columbia, Mo.

Surviving are his wife; one son, Wayne of Huntington, Ind.; and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents.
