LAIRD VAN RENTERGHEM

Laird Van Renterghem, 61, of Brooklyn, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services for Laird Van Renterghem were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn. Rev. Richard Okumu officiated. The organist was Marilyn Kriegel and the soloist was Sue Kluber. Flower attendants were LaRae Keiser and Mike and Lori Nelson. Casket bearers were Paul Lynn, Glen Berry, George Cowger, Mike Keiser, Roger Gritsch and Camiel Landuyt. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn. A Scripture service was held at 8 p.m., Monday, at Nevenhoven Funeral Home.

Laird Philip Van Renterghem, son of Fred Van Renterghem and Lois Greta Latcham Van Renterghem, was born June 18, 1939, on a farm near Brooklyn, Ia.

Laird lived all of his life in the Brooklyn area. He attended a rural school and the Brooklyn school, graduting from high school in 1958.

On May 17, 1958, Laird married Joyce Lee Rhodes in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn. They were the parents of two children, Debra and Phillip. They farmed for many years, and in recent years, Laird was employed by Grinnell Beverage Co.

Laird was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He enjoyed farming and gardening.

His mother preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce; his daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Rick Inman of Hartwick; his son, Phillip of San Diego, Calif.; his father, Fred Van Renterghem of Brooklyn; his brother and wife, John and Vicki Van Renterghem of Brooklyn; two grandchildren, Melissa Carl and her husband Kevin and Jesse Inman; and one great granddaugher, MaKenna Carl.

A memorial fund has been established.
