LOIS VAN RENTERGHEM

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 14, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn, for Mrs. Lois Van Renterghem, 86, of Brooklyn, who died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at the Brookhaven Nursing Home in Brooklyn.

Rev. Maynard J. Brothersen officiated, and the organist was Marilyn Kriegel. Special selections were "How Great Thou Art" and "Old Rugged Cross." Casket-bearers were Roger Van Renterghem, Mike Van Renterghem, Russ Van Renterghem, Don Brannian, Gene Osborn and Glen Berry. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Brooklyn.

Lois Greta Latcham Van Renterghem, daughter of Lester and Ada Benton Latcham, was born near Victor, Ia. She graduated from Hartwick High School in 1932 and thereafter worked at various jobs in Grinnell.

On Jan. 2, 1939, Lois was married to Fred F. Van Renterghem at St. Patrick's Church in Brooklyn. They were the parents of two sons, Laird and John. They farmed in the Brooklyn area.

Lois was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and St. Patrick's Altar and Rosary Society in Brooklyn. She enjoyed the farm, her garden and yard, and was a very good cook.

Her parents and a brother, Clair Latcham, preceded Mrs. Van Renterghem in death.

Survivors include her husband, Fred; two sons and their wives, Laird and Joyce Van Renterghem and John and Vicki Van Renterghem, all of Brooklyn; three half-sisters, Marilyn Landon of Millersburg, Carol Kensler of Marengo, and Irene Houck of Phoenix, Az.; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Nevenhoven Funeral Home in Brooklyn was in charge of arrangements. A memorial fund has been established.
