NORMA RICE
Des Moines

Norma Rice, 82, of the 2800 block of East 16th Street died of a respiratory ailment Wednesday at Mercy Medical Center. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Merle hay Funeral Home, with burial at Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery.

Mrs. Rice was born in Grinnell and had lived in Des Moines since the 1940s. She worked in the office of Frankels Clothing Store before retiring and was a member of Ankeny Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Floyd; four sons, Robert of Urbandale, Dennis of Corona, Calif., James of Hanlontown and Jerry of Des Moines; five brothers, Delmar Cass of Iowa City, Gene Cass of Des Moines, Merrill Cass and Eldon Cass, both of California, and Loren Cass of Oregon; a sister, Wilma Widmark of Minnesota; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to her church.

NOTE: This obituary has errors. Norma Rice was born an only child to Elsie Morgart and James A. Cass. Her mother remarried after James A. Cass's death in 1917 to Harry C. Fleener. Delmar, Gene, Merrill, Eldon and Loren are Fleener's not Cass.
