JOHN MORGART DIES SUDDENLY

John R. Morgart, 38, prominent Jewell implement dealer and civic leader, died suddenly at 4:45 p.m. Sunday in the Story City Memorial hospital following a heart attack.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Becker Funeral Home in Jewell with Mr. Howard Anthony officiating. Graveside services were held later in the afternoon at Rose Hill cemetery in Marshalltown where interment was made.

Serving as pallbearers were Wallace Barkema, Russell Bishop, Stuart Schlafke, W.L. Cooke, Vernon Roberts and Gene R. Vulgamott. Honorary pallbearers were Donald Anderson, Marvin Ceaser, LaVerne Maisel, Vernon Handsaker, Jerald Kirk and Guy Templer.

John Rolla Morgart was born in Newburg, Iowa, June 3, 1927, the son of Rollie and Anna L. Morgart. He was graduated from Van Cleve high school in 1945 and the same year entered the armed forces for service in World War II.

He was united in marriage Sept. 13, 1945 at Marshalltown to Letha Jane Nablo.

Mr. Morgart lived in Newburg and in Green Mountain, Marshalltown and Conrad before moving 11 and a half years ago to Jewell, where he operated the L & M Implement company.

Mr. Morgart had served as a member of the South Hamilton Community district school board, as a member of the Jewell town council and as mayor of Jewell.

Survivors include his widow and eight children, William John, Vernon Rollie, Darlene Jane, Jerry Ray, Rose Ellen, Mary Joan, Kevin Roger and Marvin Roy. Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Anna Morgart of Union; a brother, Wayne Morgart of Union and a sister, Myrtha Morgart of Marshalltown.

He was preceded in death by his father, June 28, 1952; by a sister, Florence, Jan. 9, 1934; and by a brother, Donald who died in the service in England April 23, 1944.
