BYRON FLEENER, SR.
Des Moines--

Byron Vance Fleener, Sr., 71, of 4325 N.E. 29th St. died of leukemia Sunday at home. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. Burial will be at McKeever Cemetery there.

Mr. Fleener was born in Tiopi, Minn., and grew up in the Newburg area before moving to Des Moines in 1948. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and retired as an engineer from the Polk County Road Maintenance Department. He was a member of American Legion.

Surviving are his wife, Trula; a daughter, Trudy Ann Goski of Tallahassee, Fla.; a son, Byron "Van" Jr. of Newhall; a sister, Norma Rice of Des Moines; five brothers, Delmar of Iowa City, Gene of Des Moines, Loren of Central City, Ore.; and Mel and Bill, both of San Jose, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Friends may call after noon Wednesday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospital.
