CLARENCE FOSTER RITES TUESDAY

Clarence B. Foster, 69, of 1510 Prairie St., Grinnell, died Saturday evening (Jan. 9) at Grinnell General Hospital, following hospitalization the past 2 1/2 weeks.

He was born on April 26, 1901, the son of Benjamin William and Anna Marie Burch Foster. He attended the rural schools near the family home and later was married to Ada Fleming on Oct. 24, 1923, in Grinnell.

The couple had two children, both of whom are now deceased, Mrs. Jean Maxine Williams, who died in 1959, and Donald Clarence Foster, who died in 1967.

Mr. Foster worked for the North Market for a time, then worked for Meadow Gold and the jacket factory. He also operated a taxi business. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Knights of Pythias.

He is survived by his wife Ada; two grandchildren, Cynthia Jean Foster, 11, and Daniel Charles Foster, 9, both of Anaheim, Calif.; a brother and sister, Roy Foster of Grinnell and Mrs. William (Elsie) Erwin of Marshalltown; and a large number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son and daughter; and four sisters and four brothers, Mrs. Angie Clindinin, Mrs. Hattie Mae Chenoweth, Mrs. Fannie Huff, Mrs. Grace Harter, Ralph Foster, Earl Foster, Fenton Foster and Ray Foster.

Funeral services for Mr. Foster will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Hugh A. Shiveley, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Organist will be Mrs. Willard Heffner.

Pallbearers will be Clair Erwin, Tom Erwin, Bennie Foster, Charles Foster, Gerald Foster and John Harter. Honorary bearers will include Carl Butler, Orrie Haag, Charles Kaisand, Keith Gregory, Martin Paulson and M.W. Walters. Flower bearers will be Mrs. Keith Gregory and Mrs. M.W. Walters.

Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home.
