Brooklyn (IA) Chronicle; Dec. 19, 1918

Chas. A. Affolter, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Affolter, was born Nov. 20, 1889 on the Affolter farm in Scott township, where he died Dec. 9, 1918, aged 38 years and 19 days. He grew to manhood on the farm, going to Chehallis, Wash. where he was married Sept. 7, 1911 to Miss Lillian Bliven. To this union were born two children, June and Billy.

After living several years at various points in the West, he and his ( ? ? ? ?) in Scott township. The cause of his death was pneumonia, resulting from an attack of influenza.

Besides his wife and two children, he is survived by his aged parents; three brothers; Henry of Ogden, Utah, John of Cottage Grove, Oregon; Tom of Waverly, Wash.; also by four sisters; Mrs. Frank McFarland of Cottage Grove, Oregon; Mrs. S.C. Norris of Grinnell; Mrs. Alfred Patten and Mrs. Sherm Hall of Brooklyn.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Episcopal church.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. S.E. Koons, pastor of the Brooklyn Presbyterian church and interment was made in I.O.O.F. cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Affolter and Mrs. Charles Affolter desire to express their sincere thanks and appreciation for all the kindness and sympathy shown and assistance rendered in the heavy bereavement they have suffered. They also wish to thank the Knights of Pythias and for the many floral offerings.
