Mary Ann Chambers was born in Ireland April 25, 1830. Early in life she came to New York City, where she was married to George Thompson July 4, 1853. The following October they moved to Illinois, residing in Bureau, Mercer and Rock Island counties until 1867, when they moved to Iowa and located in Lincoln township, Poweshiek county, where she resided continuously until about a year ago, since which time she has made her home with her only daughter, Mrs. Henry Orr, in Scott township, where she passed away Feb. 29, 1903, after a month's illness. Her husband and three of their four children preceded her to the better land. When but a little girl she became a christian, uniting with the M.E. church. During her earlier residence in Lincoln township she had membership in the United Brethren church and later, on its organization, in the Pleasant Ridge M.E. church, of which she was a faithful and devoted member. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. W.A. Longnecker at Fairmont Methodist church, Sunday, March 1, 1903, interment being in the Masonic cemetery at Deep River.
