PAUL LEON KEEFE

Paul Leon Keefe, older son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Keefe, was born on a farm northwest of Brooklyn, July 25, 1907. He died in the University Hospital, in Iowa City, January 21, 1931, at the age of 23 years, 5 months and 27 days.

He received education in the rural schools after which he was employed as a farm hand. On November 24, 1927, he was united in marriage to Marietta Sherwood, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sherwood of Hartwick. To this union were born two children.

Paul was loved by all who knew him, and was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever opportunity offered.

His death occurred as a result of a sad accident. He was burned the 15th of January while burning weeds on the Frank Rathjen farm seven miles southeast of Ladora. He had been employed there the past year. He was given prompt and efficient medical aid, but his burns were too severe for his recovery.

He leaves to mourn his untimely death his wife and two little boys, Wayne and Donald, his father and mother, a brother, Carroll and sisters, Arlene, and Mrs. John Wentland of Hartwick, besides other numerous relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday morning January 23, at the St. Patrick's Church in Brooklyn, conducted by the Rev. Fr. E.W. Barron.

Pallbearers were Wm. Roth, Lester King, Victor Vogel, Virgil Sherwood, Kenneth Lineweaver and Walter Dee. Interment was in the Hartwick cemetery. There were many friends from Grinnell who attended the services and from other places near here, but those who came from a greater distance were Raymond Gray, Mrs. J.B. Decker and daughter Mrs. Walker of Decatur, Ill., and Mrs. Chatwell of Peoria, Ill., Mrs. White and Charles Smith of Webster City, Iowa, and Mrs. Carpenter and Edward of Centerville, Iowa.
