MRS. MATHERLY SERVICE HELD

Dorothy M. Matherly, 69, Pella, formerly of Grinnell, died Thursday afternoon, Sept. 17, at her home of an apparent heart condition.

Services were held Monday morning, Sept. 21, at Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Sam Reaves pastor of the Grinnell Assembly of God, officiating. Organist was Naomi Reaves. Pallbearers were Jerry Holcomb, Ed Locker, Jeff Matherly, Jody Matherly, Ron Minear and Dennis Mithcell. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

She was the daughter of Louis A. and Hannah Tennant Mitchell, and was born in Brooklyn Sept. 8, 1918. She attended the Grinnell schools and was married to Orval Bernard Matherly Aug. 6, 1937, in Grinnell. The couple lived in Grinnell while Mr. Matherly was a member of the staff of the Grinnell water department and later lived in Monticello, Fairfield, Villisca and Pella where he also worked in water departments. She was a homemaker and had worked as a nurses' aide in Pella. The Matherly's also lived in Michigan where they managed apartments, then returned to Pella to make their home.

She is survived by her husband, Bernard, Pella; three sons Glenn E., Pella; Terry W., Flint, Mich. and Orval, South Houston, Texas; one daughter Mary Lee Volner, Eugene, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters Cecil Vaughn and Viola Holcomb and one brother George Mitchell, all of Grinnell. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Gail, Clifford and Garland Mitchell.
