HELEN F. RITTER

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, May 8, at the Grinnell United Methodist Church for Helen F. Ritter, 90, who died May 5, 1997, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. The Rev. Lon L. Lewis of the Grinnell United Methodist Church officiated, and organist Margaret Wheeler performed "Amazing Grace" and "He Touched Me."

Pallbearers were Milt Maupin, Curt Ritter, Michael Ritter, Steve Ritter, Bill Weeks and Bob Widmer. Honorary bearers were Everett Armstrong, Dr. Atwood Brock, Bill Caughey, Larry Crawford, Dr. Raymond Light, Howard Neighbors, Mark Ritter and Kenneth "Pepper" Saunders. Interment was in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery.

The daughter of John W. and Plezza June Sleggel Frizzell, Helen was born March 22, 1907, in Brooklyn. She grew up in Brooklyn and was a 1923 graduate of Brooklyn High School.

She was married to Frank Ritter August 14, 1927, in Brooklyn and the couple made their home in Grinnell. She was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, a 57-year member and past Worthy Matron of the Grinnell Order of Eastern Star, and was very active with the Grinnell Country Club for many years. Her family and their activities were very important to her and she held a great love for her grandchildren. She enjoyed playing golf, traveling in their Air Stream trailer, and wintering in Ocala, Fla.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband in 1983; two brothers, Wayne and Lee Frizzel; one sister Ruth Reading; and two great-grandsons.

She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Sue Ritter of Billings, Mont., and Richard and Carolyn Ritter of Eldora; four grandchildren, Michael of Des Moines, Mark of Danbury, Conn., Steve of Eldora and Curt of Iowa City; and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Grinnell United Methodist Church Buiilding Fund.
