MR. MADILL SERVICES HELD

Lawrence Madill, 73, of 2140 Country Club Dr. died Sunday morning, June 29, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines following a heart attack.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Peter Sawtell of the Newburg/Chester Parish, United Church of Christ, officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner. Pallbearers were Craig Madill, Jim Madill, Walter Oltrogge, Don R. Smith, James R. Wall and John Wemer. Burial was at Prairie View Cemetery, Gilman.

Should friends desire, memorials in Mr. Madill's name may be made to the Iowa Heart Fund and left at the Smith Funeral Home.

The son of John and Grace Nichols Madill, he was born Sept. 18,1906, near Newburg. He attended rural schools, later graduating from Newburg High School.

He was married to Luella Gause on June 2, 1932, at Lynnville. The couple farmed west of Newburg in Jasper County until 1935 when they moved to the Montezuma area to farm. They came to Grinnell in 1942.

Mrs. Madill died in July 1964.

He was married to Mabel Clindinin Esler on Sept. 3, 1971, and the couple lived in Grinnell.

Mr. Madill was a member of the Midway Grange in Montezuma and was a former director of the county school system. He was also a member of the Poweshiek County Aberdeen Angus Association.

Survivors include his wife, Mabel; his children, Arlene Mae Madill of Cedar Rapids and Verna Irene Boland of Fairfax; his step-children, Carolyn Ritter of Eldora and Kenneth Esler of Mahwah, N.J.; three grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; a brother, Stanley Madill of Waterloo; and a sister, Anna Bartlett of Miles. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, and a brother, Robert.
