NORA MATHERLY RITES CONDUCTED

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. today, (Wednesday, Dec. 29) for Mrs. Nora Mae Matherly, 77, of 1321 Reed St., widow of Clyde E. Matherly, who died Sunday evening at Friendship Manor Nursing home.

The Rev. J. Lester Williams of Manning and the Rev. Vernon L. Smith, pastor of the Grinnell Calvary Baptist Church, officiated at the services which were held at the Smith Funeral Home.

Music was provided by Mrs. Willard Heffner, organist and Gordon VanDonselaar, vocalist.

Flowerbearers were Mrs. Fred Heinle and Mrs. David Mitchell.

Pallbearers were Bill Harris, Raymond Harris, Steve Harris, Glen Matherly, Orval Matherly and Randy Matherly.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

The daughter of Eli and Hattie Corbin Fullerton, Mrs. Matherly was born Sept. 24, 1894, in Marshall, Okla. At an early age she moved with her family to a farm near Unionville, Mo., where she attended the Unionville schools.

On April 25, 1912, she was married to Clyde E. Matherly at Exline, Iowa. Soon after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Matherly moved to the Grinnell area. They lived on several farms before moving to their Reed Street home in 1939.

Mrs. Matherly was a member of the Grinnell Calvary Baptist Church, the Royal Neighbors Society, and was past president of the Friendly Neighbors Birthday Club.

Survivors include four children--Glen L. Matherly of Caledonia, Ohio, Bernard Matherly of Pella and Mrs. Lester (Beulah Maxine) Harris and Delmar D. Matherly of Grinnell; 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren, and seven brothers and sisters--Mrs. Forest (Nell) Uhl of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Joe (Vernice) Pierce of Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs. Earl (Zilla) Force of Brooklyn, Mrs. E.H. (Silvis) Perry of Albuquerque, N. Mex., and James Fullerton, Andrew Fullerton and Ernest Fullerton of Clinton, Iowa.

Mrs. Matherly was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Clyde on Feb. 17, 1970; one grandchild, Karen Hinshaw, and one brother, Orval Fullerton.
