RITES HELD FOR MR. MATHERLY

Delmar D. Matherly, 59, of 1321 Reed St., Grinnell, died Thursday, Dec. 20, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Curtis Brouwer of the Calvary Baptist Church and the Rev. Sam Reaves of the Assembly of God Church officiating. Music was provided by Naomi Reaves, organist and Barbara Brouwer, vocalist.

Pallbearers were Roger Bailey, Dock Blankenship, Ray Clifton, Bob Gauley, Edison Sharp Jr. and Robert Stewart. Honorary bearers were Ron Curry, Jim Hotchkin, Ken Meek and Steve Meek. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Memorials in Mr. Matherly's name may be made to the American Cancer Society.

The son of Clyde and Nora Fullerton Matherly, he was born Dec. 16, 1925, near Malcom. In 1939 he moved with his family to Grinnell where he attended school. He worked for the Midwest Stamping Co. at Kellogg and the Maytag Co. at Newton before joining the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was married to Flonnie Stepp in Grinnell on March 30, 1945. The couple lived in Grinnell where he was employed by the Van Wechel and Paschall motor companies. He was also employed by the Grinnell-Newburg School District's transportation department for 10 years and by Miracle Recreation Equipment Co. for eight years.

Mr. Matherly is survived by his wife, Flonnie; two children, Donna Turner and Randy Matherly, both of Grinnell, five grandchildren, two brothers, Glen L. of Homestead, Fla., and Bernard of Houston, Texas, and one sister, Beulah Harris of Marshalltown. He was preceded in death by his parents.
