ARCHER FARRIS GILBERT
Archer Farris Gilbert, son of Joseph William and Eliza Ann Gilbert, was born near Oskaloosa, on June 19, 1871 and died Sunday evening, November 22, 1936 at his home in University Park, after an extended illness. He was united in marriage to Laura Violetta Sheline, September 24, 1896, and to this union were born four children; Edna Marie and Emery Eugene, who died in infancy; Zilpha May and Joseph Beverly. He was a member of the United Presbyterian church and a trustee until the time he was injured September 16, 1916 and since that time was not able to attend church frequently. Survivors include his widow, a daughter, Zilpha, one son, Joseph Beverly, one daughter-in-law and one grandchild, two brothers, Amos Gilbert of Grinnell and Fred Gilbert of Scobey, Mont., two sisters, Mrs. H.H. Fleener and Mrs. W.E. Schooley and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Jud Gilbert of Grinnell, and several nieces and nephews. At the age of nine years he moved with his parents to Grinnell where he resided until his marriage, after which he moved to Garden Grove and a few years after back to Grinnell where he resided until 1917. Then he moved with his family to University Park. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 24, 1936 in the chapel of John Fletcher college in University Park with Rev. Nelson Baxter in charge. Burial in University Park cemetery.
