SWITCHMAN KILLED
Lloyd Conner Meets Death Under The Wheels

The people of Brooklyn were shocked yesterday morning on coming down town to learn that a fatal accident had occurred during the night and that Lloyd Connor, the west end night switchman, had been fatally injured in the Rock Island yards. At the time the accident occurred he had just uncoupled two cars and was stepping back out of the way when he caught the heel of his right shoe in a frog. He gave the signal and called out to stop. The train was brought to halt in a remarkably short length of time, but not until it had struck him and one pair of trucks passed over almost the entire length of his right leg. The car struck his body and pushed him over forward and the trucks first struck him half way between the ankle and knee joints and followed the limb up to within six inches of the body, almost severing it, and crushing the bones and flesh into a pulp.

As soon as the accident happened, a messenger was dispatched for Dr. Landes and a telegram sent to Dr. Clark at Grinnell. Both arrived promptly and everything in their power was done to cause re-action. Their efforts however, proved futile, as the shock was too great and Thursday at 11:15 a.m., he died just twenty-three hours after the accident.
