FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MRS. GILBERT
Funeral services for Mrs. Eliza Ann Gilbert, mother of Mrs. Harrison Fleener, were held from the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. G.C. Simcox, former pastor of the Friends church here but now of Glidden. The music was in charge of Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Richards, who sang, "Face to Face" and "That Beaautiful Land." Pall bearers, all grandsons, were Harold Schooley, Raymond Gilbert, Harry Gilbert, Lloyd Gilbert, Joseph Gilbert, and Sherman Gilbert. All the children were present except the youngest son, Fred, of Scobey, Montana, who was unable to come.

Eliza Ann Fuller daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Fuller was born May 1, 1848 in Noble county, Ohio and departed this life Oct. 7, 1930 at the age of 82 years, 5 months and 6 days. She was the last of a family of eight children. The family has lived in and near Grinnell for more than fifty years.

When she was 3 years of age she came to Iowa with her parents, settling on a farm near Ottumwa, where she grew to young womanhood.

On Oct. 24, 1868 she was united in marriage to Joseph W. Gilbert of Oskaloosa, Iowa. To this union were born 8 children, 5 boys and 3 girls. Two preceded her in death, Mrs. Hans Marcusson of Clio, Iowa, and John W. of Grinnell and her husband Joseph William Gilbert who died April 8, 1915.

The six living children who are left to mourn the loss of a good mother are Archie F. of University Park, Iowa, Jud F. and Amos H. of Grinnell, Fred M. of Scobey, Montana and the two daughters, Mrs. W.E. Schooley and Mrs. H.H. Fleener both of Grinnell. She was also a step-mother of Mrs. Ben Sheline of University Park, Iowa.

There are twenty-five grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren who with others mentioned survive her.

In her early married life she united with the M.E. church. The cares of life consuming her time and attention kept her from being a faithful member. Her heart longed for Christian help and strength. About four years ago she realized her weakness and sought and received a real experience of salvation which was her comfort and joy in her closing years. Her conversation dwelt almost altogether on thoughts pertaining to her eternal interest. The night before her death her daughter Mrs. W.E. Schooley was with her and her last words were, after prayer was offered, "she was ready to go." It was for many months that she longed to be with her Heavenly Father. She passed from this life in peace to join those whom she loved in yonder world.

Her neighbors and a host of friends will miss her, as Grandma Gilbert was a kind friend to everybody.
