JOSEPH WILLIAM GILBERT
Joseph William Gilbert was born in Fairview, O., July 24, 1837, and departed this life at his home in Grinnell, Iowa, April 8, 1915, at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 14 days.

He was united in marriage to Eliza Ann Fuller at Oskaloosa, Iowa, October 25, 1868.

He with his family came to Grinnell in 1880 where they have since resided.

He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a kind neighbor, loved and respected by all who knew him.

He bore his suffering with patience although he was ill for a long time. The end came peacefully.

He leaves a wife, four sons, and four daughters to mourn his loss. Those who live in the city are: Archer F. Gilbert, Mrs. H.V. Griffith, Geo. F. Gilbert, Mrs. W.E. Schooley, Amos H. Gilbert, and Fred M. Gilbert. Those living elsewhere are Mrs. B.F. Sheline of Oskaloosa, Iowa and Mrs. H.M. Marcusson of Corydon, Iowa.

The funeral services were held at the house on Saturday, April 10, at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Joseph Sopher had charge of the services. The body was laid to rest in Hazelwood cemetery.
