MARGARET SLAGLE RITES HELD SUNDAY

Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Slagle, 87, who died in Des Moines last Friday, were held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at Bramer Funeral Home in charge of the Rev. M.C. Shupe, pastor of Grace Methodist church. Organist was Mrs. Ed Bartachek. Interment was held Monday at Hazelwood cemetery in Grinnell.

Margaret Orr, daughter of Joseph and Mabel Layng Orr, was born March 7, 1870 at Pittsburg, Pa. and died November 15, 1957. She came to Iowa with her parents when she was three years old. The family settled on a farm near Brooklyn.

She married Feb. 2, 1883, to Sam Norris. Five children were born to the couple, Ira F., Mabel, John H., Margaret and James L. Mr. Norris died in 1922. One son, Ira F. Norris, also preceded her in death.

She later married Vern Slagle who preceded her in death Dec. 31, 1951.

Mrs. Slagle spent most of her life in Poweshiek county, living in Brooklyn and Montezuma. The past few years she had lived in Des Moines at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Al (Margaret) Lause. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters Lodge and the Episcopal church.

She is survived by four children, Mrs. Ira (Mabel) Leslie of Carlisle, and John H. Norris, Mrs. Al (Margaret) Lause and James L. Norris, all of Des Moines, three sisters, Mrs. Jennie Norris of Grinnell, Mrs. Lillie Hall of Guernsey and Mrs. Daisy Patten of Brooklyn, two brothers, John Orr of Yakima, Wash. and Henry Orr of Riverton, Wyo. She also leaves several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
