Brooklyn (IA) Chronicle; March 4, 1898

Died, at his home in this city, Sunday Feb. 27, 1898, Lamslet Slagle, aged 66 years, and 3 months, pneumonia being the immediate cause of death. Deceased had been in apparently good health but Tuesday of last week while standing in front of the post office he suffered a severe attack of heart failure, and had to be taken home. This was followed by pneumonia and resulted in death Saturday morning. Immediately following his sickness his daughters arrived here and everything that human hands could do was done to restore him to health but to no avail. He was united in marriage early in life to Charlotte Patrick and by this union ten children were born two of whom with his wife preceded him to the great beyond. He was an old citizen of this community having lived here for the past forty years. He had many peculiar characteristics but was a man whose honesty and integrity could be depended upon at all times, and consequently enjoyed the respect of his neighbors and friends. The funeral services occurred Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of Jno. Capehart conducted by Rev. A.V. Kendrick after which the remains were tenderly laid away in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.

(Note: Name mis-spelled as Lamslet in this obituary.)
