Veteran Painter Dies At Iowa City Hospital

Funeral services for Vern Slagle were held this (Thursday) afternoon at two o'clock at Bramer's funeral home in charge of the Rev. Paul Figge, pastor of First Presbyterian church. Mrs. Ed Bartachek was at the organ and Mrs. George Montgomery sang two hymns.

Burial was in I.O.O.F. cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Earl Force, Lloyd Wells, Jesse Bunnell, Paul Urfer, Harold Newton and Elmer Richman.

Mr. Slagle died Monday at University hospital in Iowa City where he had been a patient about two weeks. He had lived most of his life in the Brooklyn community where he worked as a painter and paper hanger. He was 77 years old.

Dennison Vern Slagle was born in Brooklyn August 21, 1874, the son of Lancelot and Margaret Slagle. In 1904 he married Kate Smith. One son, Elmer, was born to the couple. Mrs. Slagle died in 1910.

He was married to Margaret Norris Dec. 19, 1943.

He is survived by his wife; his son Elmer Slagle of Hugoton, Kan., and four grandchildren, Katherine, Alice, Douglas and Roy.
