Brooklyn (IA) Chronicle; April 21, 1910

Mrs. Kate Smith Slagle, the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. W. Smith, was born in Davenport, Iowa, December 22, 1873, and died in Brooklyn, Iowa April 14th, at 1 o'clock p.m.

Mrs. Slagle was reared in Brooklyn where she was known by all. She was married to Vernon Slagle March the 25th, 1903. To this union has been born one son, Elmer Slagle, who is now in his third year. This son, with his father, survive to mourn their loss. There also survive in addition to these, three brothers and the mother. The deceased had been in poor health for about two years but was only confined to her bed for about two weeks. Death came quietly as if she had fallen asleep. She was a member of the Brethren church, uniting with this branch of God's people when a young woman. She was kind and patient and was always active in her ministry upon those in need.

May God's blessings be upon the memory of this one of His servants. The funeral service was held at the South Side Church Sunday afternoon, the services being preached by Rev. W.L. Clapp. The interment was made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
